FAWRAN - FAQs


1) What is ’FAWRAN’?

• FAWRAN was a new service introduced by QCB to enable fund transfer between banks in Qatar. The transfer is instantaneous, and the beneficiary receives the transfer immediately. This was initially enabled only for Retail customers now it has been enabled for Corporate customers.


2) Who can send/receive funds via the ‘FAWRAN’ service?

• Currently the service is available to Corporate/Retail banking customers of Masraf Al Rayan. At the moment only Corporate to Corporate transfer feature is available for the Corporate customers.
• The FAWRAN option is available under the "Transfers" menu of the Corporate Internet Banking.
• Masraf Al Rayan corporate customer can send /receive funds to/from :
- Other MAR Corporate accounts.
- Other Qatar Bank Corporate accounts.


3) Which currencies are currently available for the ‘FAWRAN’ service?

• Corporate customers can send/receive funds only in QAR (to/from QAR denominated accounts).


4) Which account types can be used to receive/send funds via ‘FAWRAN’?

• Corporate customers having a current or call account in Masraf Al Rayan can send or receive funds.


5) Does the customer have to register for the ‘FAWRAN’ service?

• Yes. As a first-time user, the Corporate customers must register for the service by creating an 'Alias' and linking this Alias to their call or current account.


6) What is an ‘Alias’ & why is it needed?

• An ‘Alias’ is a unique name given to your account. This Alias is linked to your Current /call account.
• An ‘Alias’ is unique across all Fawran users and banks in Qatar.
• Corporate use Aliases to send/receive funds as it is easier to use (instead of typing beneficiary account numbers).


7) What are the types of ‘Aliases’?

There are Four types of aliases:

Corporate Alias
• Your Corporate Alias will be the following registered with Masraf Al Rayan. And are configured by default.

Corporate Alis Value Corporate Alias Type
Commercial Registration of the Corporate COCR
Commercial License of the Corporate COCL
Establishment Registration of the Corporate COER

IBAN Alias
• Your “IBAN” Alias will be your 29 Digit IBAN maintained with the bank. And is configured by default.

8) I have an account with Masraf Al Rayan. Can I create more than one Alias for this account?

• Yes. You can have one 'IBAN Alias' and four 'Corporate Alias' linked to the same account. But you cannot have multiple accounts for 1 “Corporate Alias”.


9) I have created Alias and want to modify it?

• A created alias cannot be modified. Instead, the corporate must De-Register/delete the Alias and create a new one.


10) What are the limits set for the ‘FAWRAN’ Service?

• A Corporate customer can send a maximum of QAR 50,000 per day through the Fawran service. This limit is cumulative for all his accounts/aliases. The per transaction limit is set at – Minimum- QAR 1 & Maximum QAR 50,000.


11) How do I know the details of the beneficiary (account number/name) when I am sending funds to an Alias?

• While doing the transaction, the system will fetch all details of the beneficiary and show it to the Corporate customer to confirm.


12) Does the corporate have to create a beneficiary first for sending funds via the FAWRAN service?

• No. Corporate customers don't need to create a beneficiary for sending funds. They simply must input the alias of the beneficiary to proceed.


13) How does a corporate dispute a transaction?

• The Corporate customer will have to contact the, RM or Branches to raise a dispute.


14) What are the Fees for initiating a FAWRAN transfer?

• Corporate customer will be charged fees based on the below matrix. Masraf Al Rayan to Masraf Al Rayan is free.

15) How does the ‘Request to Pay’ feature work?

• By using the 'Request to Pay' feature, a Masraf Al Rayan Corporate customer ('Requester') can request another customer ('Payer') to make a payment to the 'Requester'.


16) How do I use the ‘Request to Pay’ feature?

• The feature is available under the 'FAWRAN' menu of the Masraf Al Rayan corporate internet banking. On selection of the option, Corporate customer can select the account where the funds will be credited. Corporate customer can further search the details of the 'Payer' to send the request.


17) How are both Parties (Requester & Payer) notified when a request is sent?

• When a ‘Request to Pay’ is initiated, both ‘Requester’ & ‘Payer’ are informed via a SMS


18) How can the ‘Payer’ search and act on a request he has received?

• The 'Payer' is notified via an SMS whenever he receives a request to pay. The 'Payer' will then log onto the Masraf Al Rayan Corporate internet banking and select the 'Request to Pay' icon. On selection all requests corporate has received will be presented to them. On click on the request, corporate is prompted with an option to 'Approve' or 'Reject'; a request. On approving a request, a FAWRAN payment is initiated to the requester. An SMS is sent across to both parties informing them of the action taken In case of a rejection by the payer, an SMS is sent across to both parties informing them of the action taken.


19) What are the Fees for initiating a ‘Request to Pay’?

• There are no fees for initiating a 'Request to Pay' by the 'Requester'. When the 'Payer' approves a request a FAWRAN payment is initiated. 'Payer' will be charged fees based on the below matrix for the FAWRAN payment. Masraf Al Rayan to Masraf Al Rayan is free.

20) Is there an expiry time for a ‘Request to Pay’ transaction?

Yes, the ‘Payer’ must act upon a ‘Request to Pay’ within a span of 6 hours post which the request will expire.
